A YAY FROM JAYE: Kimberly Patterson… DO Coach!

The biblical story of Mary and Martha found in Luke 10:38-42 has long been associated with the dichotomy of thinking and doing. Mary, a thinker, and Martha, a doer, were two sisters graced by Jesus’ presence in their home. Well, actually, the Bible says it was Martha’s home. So, of course, being the hospitable host, she concerned herself with “doing” what was necessary to successfully entertain her guest. Mary, on the other hand, “thought” it would be better to sit at the Lord’s feet and listen to what He was saying. The Bible goes on to say that Martha became distracted by her tasks and insisted that Jesus make Mary help her do the work. Jesus reassured Martha by responding, “Only one thing is essential.”

The spotlight this month is on a woman who has learned to capture the essence of both Mary and Martha and teaches how to embody them both in that one essential thing Jesus talked about. Her name is Kimberly Patterson and she calls it The DO! Who better to join together the inner workings of the soul and the outer actions of the body than a “Synergy Specialist,” as Kimberly is known throughout the field of development and training! As a “Synergy Specialist,” licensed counselor and ordained minister, Kimberly uses intuitive coaching, counseling, workshops, conference calls and scheduled webinars to assist individuals and groups in discerning their purpose, calling, direction and ultimately their destiny. She is also the owner of The Polished Group— an elite management and consulting firm designed to help companies and organizations maximize their operational potential and get the best results from their employees and business associations.

In her book entitled The Morning DO!, Kimberly helps men and women gain a sense of purpose AND a sense of accomplishment by encouraging and motivating readers to spend time daily with themselves and God. It is a 31-day, activity-based devotional that inspires you to master the art of “The Do!” and “The Inner Do!” The book is grounded in the bible verse found in James 1:22-25: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”

The Morning Do! comes complete with daily quotes, scriptures, prayers and, of course, a DO List (notice I didn’t say a “To Do” List). Kimberly explains, “If you look at ‘To Do’, what does that say to you? ‘To Do’ is always to come, never completion. Take for instance the lead-in ‘I’m going To Do’, ‘I would like To Do’, ‘I want To Do.’ You’re never really completing anything. Now take a look at the lead-in when you say, ‘Today on my DO List, I will DO, I am DOING.’ I gave this scenario a lot of thought and what came to mind was that you move by DOING not ‘To Do’.” The exercises in The Morning Do! are geared to get the reader in the mode of DOING and MOVING. Kimberly says, “DOING is a set up for success within your specific desires. Doing puts you in the consciousness to complete an assignment or task. This will help you in mobility as well as bring forth a revelation of self. When you DO, you discover what you CAN DO. You will feel clarity and gain wisdom. DOING allows you to clear space in your mind and when you work the WORK and do the DO, wisdom will also come to you. Additionally, DOING increases your sense of self-worth because you have invested in the success of your destiny.”

One might think that writing a book like The Morning Do! would be a quick and easy task for a “doer” such as Kimberly Patterson. However, she confesses that it came with blood, sweat and tears. “I had the idea about five or six years before I wrote it; but I didn’t just write the book, I WORKED the book. It’s a 31-day journey that took me three years to work. I was inspired to write the book when I realized I was surrounded by a lot of people that possessed the spirit of procrastination. They would always complain about not getting this done and not getting that done. Procrastination is a fatal enemy. I have always been one to believe the only way anything is going to happen and move in our lives is by getting up and DOING! Why put off until tomorrow what you can DO today? So The Morning Do! became a poetic journal… a dialogue with me and God… for the reader to learn to follow through and to commit to details.”

The Morning Do! has proven to bring about synergistic change in those who actually DO the prescribed work laid out in the book. In a focus group conducted prior to the book’s official release date, the common theme communicated by all the members in this diverse group was: “I will never procrastinate again and I will always trust The DO! in me.” Testimonials read: “This book has given me tools to maximize my daily activities! Now I can buy it for our teenager.” The latter is a bold statement— a book fitting for a parent AND a teenager? It is. The Morning Do! is a straight-forward, yet thought provoking method that works at developing and challenging the active participant’s personal strengths.

Actions completed from the Daily Do List created in The Morning Do! can be easily observed and measured by checking off each task. What about the “Inner Do?” Kimberly says, “It’s the feeling that gets the blessing. You will feel a sense of accomplishment. You will be able to exhale because WHAT you are DOING will fit like a glove. That’s when you know you have reached a part of your purpose and destiny. I say ‘a part’ because we are always moving from glory to glory and life is a journey. We are continuing to move toward the mark of a higher calling. In summary, you gain a sense of satisfaction.” And that’s just important as “The Do” itself. In fact, Kimberly is currently producing companion materials to focus more on the “Inner Do” of The Morning Do! “My team and I are finishing up the audio instructions now. It’s part instruction and part meditation. We believe you have to prepare your hearts and minds in DOING. That is why I recommend some meditation. You may visit our website at www.thedocoach.com and send us a message about the book and/or audio materials. One of our representatives will be glad to assist.”

No matter the day set on the calendar, Kimberly Patterson’s The Morning Do! is a catalyst to motivate, encourage, humor and prayerfully help guide you in areas that will ultimately change your perspective, redirect your paths, inspire your intellect and stir up the gifts in you. Contact The Polished Group at 832-224-6135 to bring Kimberly to a town near you. Whether it is training in corporate America or educating a church ministry, Kimberly desires to meet people face-to-face and heart-to-heart in order to pull out their God-given creativity and set them on a road full of The Morning Do!

After interviewing Kimberly Patterson, I personally walked away with a revelation that Martha’s sister, Mary, was not just a thinker but an inner doer. If we allow our outer being to synergize more with the inner person we’re called to be, we would all be a little more successful.
